Matchday 13 provided another set of exciting results out of which City and Arsenal defeat raising more than few eyebrows.

While Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Manchester City at the Etihad was arguably the most exciting game, there were other results too that tilted already on the move Premier League table.

Spurs continued their rise as they defeated fellow Londeners West Ham 4-1, keeping their top 4 hopes very much in the hunt. Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to West Brom was another result that raised many eyebrows whether Arsenal are good enough for top 2 finish.

Here are a few talking points of another exciting matchday:-

Spurs, Everton continue to keep their credentials for top 5 finish

At the Etihad, Liverpool defeated Manchester City to keep their top four gates open, but at the other end, Spurs’ and Everton’s resounding wins over West Ham and Aston Villa remind us that they are in for some serious stuffs this season.
Spurs side is built on the core consisting of Kane, Erikson and Dembele, whereas Everton team is built around young talents like Lukaku, Barkley and Kone.
Both of Spurs and Everton have squads and necessary depths to challenge for the 4th spot till the end of season.

Coquelin’s injury leaves Arsenal in a midfield crisis

Arsenal’s luck seems to find a way to peg them back when they look like they are on an upward curve, another huge injury setback, this time injury to Francis Coquelin during a 2-1 loss to West Brom has deframed the Gunners.
Coquelin was a key player for the Gunners, Wenger depended on him and not signed a backup  raising few concerns and with the defensive midfielder out now, that over dependence may hit Wenger back and fans will rightly be frustrated.

Leicester’s season continues to be a fairytale

Leicester City continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable 3-1 win over Newcastle away to Sports Direct Arena. Jamie Vardy continues to score and made a history of scoring in ten consecutive league games. The Foxes are currently at the top of the table and look to consolidate their position with matches against top 6 sides coming up in December.

Pellegrini’s questionable team selection against Liverpool

image

Liverpool were unstoppable against City, with the trio of Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana being their chief destructors of the Citizens. But, it should be said that Manuel Pellegrini did very little to stop the charge of Klopp’s men.
He started with Demichelis and Mangala as centre backs and it was evident that they were raw as a pair and Kompany’s absence was proving to be a huge setback.
Facing his old teammates, Sterling was anonymous on the pitch and pair of Toure and Fernando also looked disjoint.
It was a questionable performance from City and Pellegrini’s selection  should be under scrutiny too.

    1. yupp good point but Depay overall had a better game, had Firmino put one of two one-on-ones with Hart, he would have been in TOTW for sure.
